Dear Mentors and Trainers,

Thank you for a good mentor meeting. We had a great turn out (36 participants) and the weather cooperated wonderfully. We were lucky! Thanks for all your good ideas in regard to innovations for workshops and parent groups. I am sorry it has taken me so long to get the notes back to you but it seems I’ve been in a bit of a tail spin since you left. Update on School Age Basic and Advance Programs

“Give me Five” - the school age basic and advance curriculum manuals, VHS and PAL DVD are completed. NTSC DVD is in queue to be done next! We sent everything out to the Pathfinder group leaders and I have already had a consultation day in UK with those mentors who are using and mentoring those using the revised program for children ages 8-13 years. Linda and Angela lead the way and are already up to session 6 with the new program! They are getting through fewer vignettes than I anticipated –so you know what that means!

Seems that the UK project is attracting some of the most antisocial children in this age group as well as the poorest families so this is an interesting journey. In Leeds they have provided taxis to bring everyone in to the groups and most families get home visits in addition to the group work. We are learning a lot from this project. Stay tuned …. More than 30 groups are ongoing now. Judy hopes to do a randomized trial with this age group – so we hope she can get the funds.

Babies/Toddler Program Update

PAL DVDs are being made now and we hope to have them done by the end of this month. The manual is almost finished. Judy in Wales and Angela and Caroline in Manchester are going to pilot the programs and one of Judy’s doctoral students will do a randomized trial so we are excited about that.

Revised Preschool Program

I am working on this one now and Julie and I are co-leading a parent group for children with ADHD using this revised program. It is fun to use the new vignettes and to have the added emphases on social and emotional coaching as well as routines. And we seem to be always behind in terms of what we think we are going to cover in a session! This one is scheduled to be released in January 2008.

Peer Coaching Training

Caroline and Angela in Manchester are going to pilot this training and soon I will send you documents regarding who to select for this training and what peer coaches are expected to do, and how they can become accredited. I am excited about this new development
.

Pathfinders Mentors

Please use the new manual for this project. I will be sending you my recommended vignettes for this age group. Please let me know if you have questions or want consultation – I am happy to talk by phone or email.

Best wishes, Carolyn

Pathfinders Mentors meet with Carolyn for the Pathfinders Project, London UK, October 24-25.
