Third, certified leaders will be invited to the Incredible Years workshops that update our program materials and provide a forum for sharing ideas with other group leaders. Additionally, certification grants eligibility for training in the advanced course in parent group leadership and/or an invitation to continue training to become a Incredible Years Certified Mentor of group leaders. Incredible Years offers the following Group Leader Certifications
Background Qualifications Group leaders come from many disciplines, including counseling, social work, psychology, psychiatry, nursing, and education. Potential Group Leaders should have training in child development, behavior management and group process. In addition, to achieve outcomes similar to those achieved in the published studies, group leaders should attend an authorized training from one of our certified Incredible Years trainers, as well as undergo our certification process. Trainings are offered regularly in Seattle, and our Certified Incredible Years Trainers can also provide on-site training in your community upon request. This small group training (maximum 30 people) gives leaders a detailed introduction to the content and process of leading the groups, with extensive role plays and troubleshooting for difficult issues. How to Begin Attending a workshop by an Incredible Years Certified Trainer and becoming a Group Leader is the first step in becoming a Certified Group Leader. Following this training, conduct at least two group sessions. Complete the interventions and self-evaluations and obtain weekly as well as final parent evaluations of the sessions. Receive feedback on two group sessions by a certified mentor or trainer, and complete an application for certification form. This process maximizes the quality and performance of the group leader, and closely approximates the steps taken in our studies to ensure intervention fidelity. Certified group leaders can feel confident that they have mastered the collaborative process, and are likely achieving results similar to those obtained in our studies. The forms mentioned and complete details are on the Group Leader Certification process page
